The Maldives Police Service has successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle illicit drugs into Gaafu Alifu Villingili, following a coordinated special operation.

Police confirmed that the operation was conducted on April 4, based on intelligence received indicating that narcotics were being transported by sea from Malé to Villingili. The operation, carried out by the police along with intelligence units, targeted a vessel suspected of carrying the illegal substances.

As the boat approached the port of Villingili, law enforcement officers conducted a search, during which a large rubber packet containing suspected narcotics was recovered. The seized substance has a provisional weight of approximately 231 grams.

At present, no individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. Authorities have confirmed that the matter remains under active investigation by the Villingili Police Department.
