The new academic year begins with over 90,000 students

The academic year 2025 has begun with over 90,000 students enrolled. 

This year’s academic year commenced after a month of holiday. 

According to the Ministry of Education, the academic year has commenced with over 90,000 students, approximately 84,000 students enrolled in 217 public schools nationwide.  

As in previous years, the number of students enrolled in schools in Male’ city remains higher, with 33 per cent of the population attending 19 schools in the capital, and 21 per cent of the staff working at these schools. 

According to the Ministry, more than 5,000 students have been enrolled in grade one nationwide, with over 2,000 students of them in the capital. It also stated that over 1,200 students have been relocated to schools in the Capital, and over 500 students relocated to schools within atolls. 

The academic year commenced with 11,000 teachers with 10,000 teachers in the public schools. 

The Ministry stated that schools are well prepared for the new academic year, with all students receiving their textbooks on time and fully equipped with the necessary materials and staff. 

This year’s academic year is set to end on December 28.
