The Parliament has commenced deliberations on the appointment of Mohamed Anas as President of the Privatization and Corporatisation Board (PCB), following his nomination by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Anas, was appointed to the post on March 13, 2025  under the Privatization, Corporatisation and Monitoring and Evaluation of State Business Establishments Act. His nomination was officially announced during Monday’s parliamentary sitting and subsequently referred to the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee for vetting.

The appointment follows the dismissal of former PCB President who was removed from office on February 13, 2025.

Anas brings a background in public financial management and higher education. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Maldives National University and has previously served as Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Audit Manager at the Housing Development Corporation, and Associate Professor at the Maldives Business School.

The PCB is responsible for overseeing the privatisation and corporatisation of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and ensuring regulatory compliance. The board plays a key role in strengthening transparency and operational efficiency across government-owned entities.

As per legal procedure, presidential appointees to the PCB require parliamentary approval. The SOE Committee is expected to present its findings before a final vote is held in Parliament.
