Parliament has begun reviewing the nomination of Uz Mohamed Mujuthaz to the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
The nomination by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, was announced during today’s parliamentary sitting and has since been referred to the Standing Committee on Independent Institutions for a thorough review of Uz Mujuthaz’s qualifications and experience before making a recommendation to the full parliament for a vote.
The vacancy in the commission arose after former vice president Ibrahim Rasheed tendered his resignation after the committee initiated proceedings to remove him over alleged irregularities in recruitment processes. His exit prompted the President’s Office to open applications for the vacant post on March 12, 2025.
Uz Mujuthaz, who previously served as Minister of State at the President’s Office in 2014, is now being considered to join the five-member constitutional body responsible for overseeing the civil service sector. His appointment, as per constitutional procedure, will require parliamentary approval before it can be finalised.
The Civil Service Commission currently comprises President Mohamed Nasih and members Mohamed Farshath, Fathimath Shareef, and Fathimath Habeeba. Uz Mujuthaz's confirmation would complete the commission’s five-member lineup, which plays a critical role in maintaining the independence, efficiency, and accountability of the country’s civil service.
