Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, arrived in Malta on Monday, April 7, for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.

Minister Dr Khaleel is scheduled to hold talks with Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Ian Borg. Discussions will focus on enhancing diplomatic engagement, reinforcing cooperation on global issues, and identifying new opportunities in climate action, sustainable development, and renewable energy.

The visit will also include meetings with senior members of the Maltese Cabinet to deepen collaboration in areas such as trade, tourism, and environmental protection. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said both sides are expected to exchange views on shared priorities and explore pathways to advance common goals.

Accompanying the Foreign Minister are Dr Hala Hameed, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Hassan Hussain Shihaab, Senior Under Secretary.

The visit underscores the Maldives’ growing diplomatic outreach in Europe, as the island nation seeks to forge closer ties with partners like Malta that share common priorities in climate action, sustainable development, and economic cooperation.
