The Addu City Council has announced a public invitation for bids to lease, develop, operate, and manage a supporting tourist facility on Savaahili Island, located near Feydhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo in Addu City.
This announcement follows a series of council decisions aimed at promoting tourism in the region. The decision to develop Savaahili Island for tourism was initially made by the council on February 18, 2021, followed by an approval on February 14, 2024 to formally open the island for tourism-related investment opportunities.
According to the council, the facility will be established on a land area of 858,462.11 square feet and will support the broader tourism infrastructure in Addu City. The site will be leased for a maximum period of 50 years.
The proposed development must include a minimum of 10 guest rooms, along with a restaurant, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and water sports services. Additional planned amenities include a spa, wellness centre, swimming pool, and other tourism-supporting features.
The facility will also cater to nearby resorts, guesthouses, and tourism operators, enhancing the overall tourism offering in the city.
Interested parties may inspect and purchase bidding documents between April 9, 2025 and April 20, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Secretariat of the Addu City Council. Alternatively, the documents can be requested via email by submitting a completed application form.
The price of the bidding documents is MVR 15,000 for local companies with 100 per cent Maldivian ownership, and USD 1,000 for foreign bidders.
