Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Major General Ibrahim Hilmy has visited several sites where drainage works are underway in response to the severe weather currently affecting parts of the Maldives.
His visit comes amid a spell of persistent heavy rainfall, as the southwest monsoon has recently intensified, causing widespread disruption across multiple regions.
In recent days, the country has been experiencing continuous rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, prompting the Maldives Meteorological Service to issue a series of weather alerts.
A yellow alert was active from late morning to early afternoon for the area between Kaafu Atoll and Laamu Atoll.
Two earlier white alerts were issued for regions stretching from Fuvahmulah City to Addu City, and from Kaafu Atoll to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, warning of heavy rainfall, wind gusts reaching up to 40 miles per hour, and dangerous sea conditions.
