The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has officially inaugurated two newly installed lifts at Hiyaa Flat 2, as part of a broader Government initiative to address long-standing concerns raised by residents of the Hiyaa flats.
The project, handed over to HDC by the Government, involves the installation of 32 lifts across 16 residential towers. The appointed contractor stated that each tower will be equipped with two lifts, each with a 16-passenger capacity. The lifts are also designed to accommodate a stretcher in case of medical emergencies.
According to HDC’s public relations manager, the lifts feature several accessibility elements. These include engraved elevator numbers to assist visually impaired users and a travel speed of two metres per minute.
The lifts at Hiyaa Flat 2 are scheduled to open for public use from 12 May onwards. HDC confirmed that installation work will continue in additional towers over the coming months, with the project progressing at a fast pace.
Initiated under the directive of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the project aims to ease mobility issues faced by Hiyaa flat residents, particularly the elderly and individuals with special needs. HDC noted that the completion of the lift installations is expected to provide significant relief and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
