The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced the completion of land reclamation works in Raa Ungoofaaru, as part of the island’s ongoing land reclamation and shore protection project.

In an update issued on Wednesday, the company stated that reclamation works have been finalised, bringing the overall progress of the project to 64 per cent. MTCC also confirmed that rock boulders required for the continuation of shore protection works have been delivered to the site.

The scope of the project includes the reclamation of 3.07 hectares of land, along with 1,150 metres of revetment and a 75-metre groyne. In addition, a variation was approved to reclaim a further 5 hectares, expanding the project's total scope.

The project was awarded to MTCC in 2021, with physical work beginning in 2024.
