Community Reintegration begins in more than 100 islands

The National Drug Agency (NDA) reveals that it has launched the “Community Reintegration” program in over 100 islands nationwide.

The community reintegration program aims to treat drug addicts in their own homes and bring them back to society. Under this program, they detoxify the body from drugs using a medicine. 

This service has now been launched in over 100 islands with the support of Island Councils and Hospitals. According to NDA, it will also be made available in Drug Rehabilitation Centres across the country. In the Greater Male’ Area, this service is currently offered at four centres.

As a part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s aims to decentralise services, the NDA establishing Community Reintegration services this year. This is a newly introduced service in the Maldives. 

Currently, there are six Drug Rehabilitation Centres established across the country. However, with the growing demand for rehabilitation services, the Government aims to expand the capacity of these Centres. Under this initiative, the Government is working on increasing the capacity of the drug rehabilitation centre in Himmafushi.
