President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that, in addition to classrooms, school halls across the Maldives will also be equipped with air conditioning under the Government’s ongoing efforts to improve learning environments.
Speaking on the third episode of the Rayyithunaa Eku podcast, hosted by the President’s Office, the President noted that the most frequent request from students during his Presidential campaign was for air-conditioned classrooms, which led to the Government's decision to install air conditioning in all public school classrooms.
According to the President, the installation work is progressing rapidly, with the goal of completing the classroom upgrades before September this year. He added that 800 air conditioning units have already been installed, and that the energy required to power them will be supplied through renewable solar energy.
The President also said that although school halls were not initially part of the original plan, they will now be included in the project. He explained that halls play an important role in student life, serving as venues for activities, meetings, and community events, particularly on the islands. While air-conditioning for school halls will not be completed this year, he assured that it will be implemented in the near future.
He said the decision to include halls was made after recognising their significance, even though they were not part of the initial campaign pledge.
The "Cool School" project, launched last year, aims to provide air conditioning to Government schools across the country. The initiative began with the installation of AC units at Kaafu Maafushi School and has since expanded nationwide.
