Maldivian, the national airline of the of Maldives, has officially announced the introduction of special non-stop flights between Velana International Airport (VIA) in Malé and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
These limited-time operations are scheduled to take place on April 27th, 29th, and 30th, and will be operated using the carrier’s fleet of narrow-body Airbus A320 and wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft.
On January 6th of this year, Maldivian welcomed the addition of a new wide-body aircraft to its fleet, thereby enhancing its long-haul capabilities and facilitating the expansion of its international route network. Among the airline’s recent achievements is the successful commencement of scheduled services to three major cities in the People’s Republic of China—Chengdu, Beijing, and Shanghai—routes which have reportedly garnered favourable reception from passengers and stakeholders alike. The airline is also in advanced preparations to inaugurate flights to Thailand and selected destinations across Europe, capitalising on the extended range and capacity offered by its wide-body aircraft.
Maldivian emphasised that the forthcoming operations to Malaysia are not unprecedented, noting a history of seasonal and special flights between the two countries, which indicates a sustained and growing demand for such services. The upcoming April flights are anticipated to provide increased travel flexibility and convenience for passengers travelling between the Maldives and Malaysia.
The decision to introduce these direct flights forms part of a strategic endeavour to enhance connectivity for Maldivians residing in Malaysia—a community that continues to expand steadily. In addition to facilitating travel for Maldivians undertaking various personal, educational, or professional journeys, the airline also aims to accommodate the rising number of Malaysian tourists travelling to the Maldives. According to official statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the Maldives welcomed over 19,000 Malaysian visitors in the previous year, underscoring the commercial and cultural significance of this route.
Reservations for the special flights to Kuala Lumpur are now open and may be made via Maldivian’s official website or by contacting the airline’s 24-hour customer service hotline at 1671. Further information and updates are being disseminated through the airline’s official social media channels.Maldivian launches special direct flights to Kuala Lumpur
