Over 60,000 tourists visit Maldives in first nine days of April

The Maldives has experienced a strong start to the year in the tourism sector, with over 60,000 international visitors arriving in the first nine days of April alone.
According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment a total of 61,531 international visitors arrived in the country during this period, representing a 16.5 per cent rise compared to the 52,824 arrivals recorded during the same timeframe last year.
This upward trend is also evident in the cumulative figures for the year to date. As of early April, the Maldives has welcomed 693,949 tourists in 2025, marking a 5.7 per cent increase from the 656,828 visitors during the corresponding period in 2024. On average, the country is now receiving approximately 7,010 tourists per day, further reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s most sought-after travel destinations.
China currently leads as the largest source of inbound tourism, contributing 78,285 visitors so far this year. This is followed closely by Russia, with 75,448 arrivals, and the United Kingdom, which accounts for 73,280 visitors. Italy and Germany round out the top five source markets, with 61,524 and 50,585 tourists respectively.
Tourism accommodation data for 2025 also reflects a wide range of visitor preferences. More than 400,000 tourists have spent their holidays in the Maldives so far this year. Of these, over 100,000 have opted to stay in guesthouses, while more than 20,000 have chosen hotel accommodatio
In 2024, the Maldives recorded approximately 2 million tourist arrivals. Building on this achievement, the Government has set a target of attracting 2.3 million tourists by the end of 2025. To support this objective, national efforts are focused on expanding tourism infrastructure, enhancing promotional campaigns, and improving the overall visitor experience, thereby strengthening the country’s position as a premier international tourism hub.
The sustained increase in tourist numbers, particularly from major source markets such as China, Russia, and the United Kingdom, reflects a promising start to the year and offers a positive outlook for the Maldivian tourism industry in the months ahead.
