CEO of the Maldives’ National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), Heena Waleed, has stated plans to extend Aasandha healthcare services to Thailand and the UAE, marking a significant step in broadening access to quality medical care for Maldivians.
NSPA CEO Heena Waleed has confirmed that consultations with hospitals in the two countries are underway, and the official launch date will be announced soon.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had earlier pledged to expand the scope of Aasandha to include medical services in countries known for their high-quality healthcare systems. Speaking in January, President Dr Muizzu stressed the importance of enabling Maldivians to access healthcare services in diverse locations, rather than limiting the service to specific countries.
In addition to the new destinations, the President expressed a desire to enhance Aasandha to cover accommodation expenses for those seeking medical care abroad, ensuring comprehensive support until the Maldives develops its own advanced healthcare facilities.
The plans to include Thailand and the UAE in the Aasandha programme reflects the Government’s commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of Maldivians while providing access to globally renowned medical services.
