The condition of Abdul Maaniu, a Maldivian student who sustained serious injuries while undergoing pilot training in the Philippines, is being closely monitored by the Maldivian Government, according to Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives.
The incident occurred early yesterday when Maaniu was reportedly struck by a propeller after disembarking from a Cessna-125 aircraft without switching off the engine. It has been reported that he exited the aircraft suddenly due to a bout of severe dizziness.
As a result of the accident, Maaniu suffered injuries to his face, stomach, and shoulder, and lost part of a finger. He has since undergone several surgical procedures to treat his wounds.
Minister Dr Khaleel stated that he had spoken with the student’s father, Amir, and was informed of his son’s current condition and recovery efforts.
Maaniu's mother and brother have travelled to the Philippines to be with him. It was noted that his recovery has shown encouraging signs, and the family expressed hope and gratitude for his gradual improvement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Civil Aviation Authority have also reached out to Maaniu’s father to express their concern and to gather updates on the student’s wellbeing. The family has conveyed appreciation for the support extended by fellow Maldivian students in the Philippines during this difficult time.
Minister Dr Khaleel added that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had instructed the relevant Government agencies to remain actively engaged and to provide necessary assistance to the family.
