President Dr Mohamed Muizzu delivered a heartfelt address on the ocassion of Dhivehi Language Day, celebrating the deep cultural and historical significance of the Dhivehi language.
In his speech, he described Dhivehi not merely as a tool for communication, but as a powerful symbol of national identity—one that has shaped and connected generations of Maldivians.
The President emphasised the unique value of Dhivehi, a language and script that belong solely to the people of the Maldives. He reminded the nation that through the centuries, Dhivehi language has carried the stories, customs, and beliefs of its people—forming a vital thread in the nation's cultural fabric.
Emphasising that preserving the language is a shared national responsibility, President Dr Muizzu called on families, educators, and communities to actively engage younger generations in their linguistic heritage. He encouraged nurturing new voices in Dhivehi literature and arts, and inspiring young people to take pride in their mother tongue.
While affirming the Government’s commitment to protecting and promoting Dhivehi, President Dr Muizzu made it clear that the future of the language depends on collective effort.
Taking to social media, the President further reinforced his message, calling Dhivehi the "backbone of Maldivian identity." He expressed hope that the language would continue to evolve in step with the times—adapting to new realities while remaining rooted in tradition.
