Saudi Arabia has donated 25,000 Mushafs to the Maldives, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has confirmed.

The handover ceremony took place today at the Islamic Centre's main hall, where the consignment was formally presented to the Maldivian Government.

The Mushafs were officially handed over by Fahd al-Dosri, the Charge d’Affaires of the Saudi Embassy in Malé, on behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs was Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

Minister Dr Shaheem expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman for the generous contribution. He noted that the donation aligns with the Government’s ongoing efforts to promote Quranic education, particularly through expanding Quran recitation programmes and offering free Quran lessons across the atolls—an initiative that is part of the current Administration’s policy agenda.

He highlighted that the timing of the donation was especially significant, as it supports national plans to strengthen religious education. The minister also stated that the contribution reflects the strong ties between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives and described the donation as a meaningful enhancement to the Government's religious outreach programmes.

This latest donation marks a continued commitment by Saudi Arabia to assist in the Islamic development of the Maldives, further reinforcing the close bilateral relationship between the two nations.
