Preserving our heritage is key to national survival: President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted that the preservation of ancestral heritage is fundamental to the survival and continuity of the Maldivian nation.
In a message marking World Heritage Day via his official X account, the President communicated that the nation's identity is profoundly interwoven with the legacy passed down through generations.
He pointed out that safeguarding this invaluable cultural inheritance is not merely an act of remembrance, but a prerequisite for the endurance of the Maldivian people. President Dr Muizzu affirmed the Government's commitment to revitalising and strengthening national identity, adding that extensive initiatives are currently underway. These efforts, he specified, are dedicated to conserving the Maldives' rich heritage and ensuring its transmission to future generations.
The President added that maintaining current endeavours in heritage preservation represent an unprecedented level of activity in the nation's history.
World Heritage Day, officially known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, is observed annually on April 18. The day aims to raise global awareness of the rich diversity of cultural heritage around the world, while also highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by these sites and traditions. It encourages efforts to protect and preserve them for future generations.
