Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced that several new mosques, designed for longetivity, are scheduled to open in Hulhumalé Phase 2 before the end of this year, addressing a shortage in the rapidly developing area.

In a post on the social media platform X, Minister Dr Shaheem acknowledged the challenges faced by the growing population in Phase 2, which has necessitated the use of temporary prayer facilities due to the current lack of such mosques.

While construction is underway, he noted that various projects have encountered delays. The Minister assured that the Government is actively working to expedite completion and meet the community's urgent need for adequate places of worship.

He confirmed that one key project, a three-storey mosque located near the Hiyaa Towers complex, is slated to open by the end of May 2025.

The Minister stated that the Government aims to phase out all temporary mosques by the end of the year, reaffirming its commitment to providing sufficient, dedicated places of worship for the community.
