President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Uz Mohamed Mujthaz as a member of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Uz Mujthaz was officially sworn in as a member of the Civil Service Commission at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on April 20. The oath of office was administered by Supreme Court Justice Uz Hussain Shaheed, after which President Dr Muizzu presented the formal letter of appointment. The appointment was made in accordance with Article 180(b) of the Constitution and Section 13 of the Civil Service Act (Law No. 02/2007).
Holding a Bachelor of Law from the Maldives College of Higher Education, Uz Mujthaz has served in various senior Government positions, including as Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and as a Member of Parliament.
The appointment follows the resignation of former CSC Vice President Ibrahim Rasheed on 11 March, a day after the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions initiated proceedings for his removal. Uz Mujthaz’s inclusion aims to ensure continuity in the commission’s operations at a time when the Government is seeking to enhance the effectiveness and transparency of the civil service.
The Civil Service Commission is tasked with overseeing the management and regulation of the civil service, including appointments, promotions, and disciplinary actions within the public sector.
