A Labour Force Survey has begun in the Greater Malé Region, covering Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villimalé, according to the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
The survey commenced on Sunday and will continue until April 26.
The Ministry stated that randomly selected households will be visited by field teams to collect data related to education, employment, income generation, and migration.
In addition to these core areas, the survey will also gather general demographic information, data on volunteer work, and the amount of time spent on household responsibilities.
One of the key goals of the survey is to determine the labour force participation rate, identify economically active and inactive populations, and assess the creation of new job opportunities. It also aims to generate accurate data on employment and unemployment rates, migration trends, and inputs for population projections.
According to the Ministry, the survey will contribute to developing a "decent jobs" indicator and will help track the country’s progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
