President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's Administration strongly emphasises ensuring uninterrupted access to therapy and treatment services for people with disabilities.

Therapy services play a vital role in helping people with disabilities regain physical function, develop coping skills, enhance their overall quality of life, and prevent their condition from deteriorating.

Recognising the importance of these services, the Government delivers therapy support through the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA). The Government has allocated over MVR 51 million from its budget in the first quarter this year alone.

Currently, 1,357 individuals are registered with NSPA for therapy services. This includes MVR 25.4 million covering treatment costs for 675 adults, MVR 24.8 million for 652 individuals under 18, and MVR 1.2 million to support 30 individuals receiving therapy services abroad.

Last year, the Government invested MVR 194 million on therapy services, reinforcing the Government's commitment to supporting people with disabilities.

The Government is also drafting the National Action Plan on Disability Inclusion to promote and protect the rights of people with disabilities in the Maldives. The five-year plan, developed with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is set to be implemented this year.

This action plan addresses key challenges in five main areas: health, education, finance, inclusivity, and access to justice. Healthcare service providers will work to enhance and expand accessibility as part of the health component.

The plan aims to resolve existing challenges faced by people with disabilities. The Government remains committed to listening to their concerns and actively working to address these issues.
