Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy has expressed confidence that the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) will see unprecedented development during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure.
Highlighting the early gains under the current Administration at a ceremony held to mark the 133rd anniversary of MNDF, Major General Hilmy stated that the Government has prioritised strengthening the military’s operational capabilities from the outset. He noted that efforts are already underway to enhance both land and maritime defence capacity, with plans aimed at bolstering institutional strength and strategic readiness.
The Chief of Defence described the current term as a pivotal period for military modernisation, citing the leadership’s commitment to equipping the armed forces with the necessary tools and training to address evolving security challenges. He emphasised that this progress reflects a long-term vision to transform the MNDF into a more resilient and capable institution.
Major General Hilmy also acknowledged the historical role of the MNDF in safeguarding the nation, stating that the military has consistently demonstrated bravery and commitment in protecting the Maldives’ sovereignty. He said the ongoing initiatives represent a continuation of that legacy, while also setting the stage for greater self-reliance and national pride.
The event, attended by senior defence officials and dignitaries, included reflections on the sacrifices of service members and a call for continued support in advancing the military’s development agenda. The Government has pledged further investment in defence infrastructure, training, and strategic planning as part of its broader national security goals.
