The Maldives Golf Association (MGA) has formally presented the symbolic jersey and commemorative plaque of the upcoming Maldives Open 2025 to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The event was held in advance of the international tournament, scheduled to take place on April 25, 2025, at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort in Sri Lanka. The symbolic handover was carried out by MGA Vice President Ahmed Nazeer.
As part of its strategic initiatives, MGA is organising the Maldives Open 2025, an inaugural international golf tournament held under the theme “Unity and Friendship through Golf.” The tournament will bring together professional and amateur golfers from various countries.
Established on 24 July 2024 by Hussain Afeef and Ahmed Nazeer, the MGA was founded with the objective of promoting and advancing the sport of golf in the Maldives. Its initiatives include the organisation of tournaments, the provision of training opportunities for players of all skill levels, and collaboration with international golf bodies. The association also aims to develop the country’s first 18-hole golf course and establish a sustainable and inclusive golfing community.
Through the development of local talent and the promotion of participation across all age groups, MGA seeks to elevate the Maldives’ profile in the global golfing community, while supporting the country’s broader tourism and economic goals.
The Maldives Open 2025 serves not only as a sporting event but also as a platform to highlight emerging talent, promote the values of sportsmanship, and strengthen international engagement through sport.
This tournament is a significant milestone in the Maldives' sporting landscape and underscores the Maldives Golf Association’s continued efforts to expand the reach and impact of golf, both nationally and internationally.
