Tree Top Hospital has launched peritoneal dialysis, a treatment for kidney failure allowing patients to manage their condition at home or any convenient location, offering a more flexible alternative to traditional hospital-based hemodialysis.

The service coincides with a visit from Dr Ivan Neretljak, a specialist in urology and transplant surgery, who will be available for consultations from November 25th to 28th. Dr Neretljak’s expertise includes peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion and hemodialysis fistula procedures, ensuring advanced care options for patients.

Peritoneal dialysis uses the peritoneal lining of the abdomen to filter waste, enabling patients to perform dialysis independently. The hospital highlighted that this approach enhances convenience and represents a significant advancement in kidney care in the Maldives.

To support the rollout, Dr Neretljak and the nephrology team will provide free counselling and training sessions to guide patients on managing the treatment at home. Patients can register for these sessions by contacting the hospital at 3351610 or [email protected].

Tree Top Hospital also confirmed that the service will be available at affordable rates, covered under military, police, and private insurance plans, expanding access to life-saving kidney treatments in the Maldives.
