The Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has started its 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
MRC holds its AGM every two years. This year's AGM will last for two days from April 25 to 26, with the participation of representatives from various branches of the MRC and senior members of the institution.
During the opening ceremony, MRC's interim president, Rasheeda Ali, highlighted the valuable services provided by the institution over the past 15 years and the accomplishments achieved with the highest number of volunteers.
Rasheeda further stated that this success has been based on their commitment to humanity and dedication to working together for charity. She also emphasised the important work done closely with the Government following the institution's governing law.
Focusing on the scope of their operations, Rasheeda stated that their main focus is on preparing for disasters, responding to emergencies, providing psychological first aid, promoting health and wellness, empowering youth, raising awareness about climate change, and increasing societal preparedness in this regard. She stated that they aim to empower communities, increase their capacity to respond to disasters, and reduce potential damage.
For this year's AGM, several important matters are scheduled. They will discuss and approve the strategic plan for the coming years, elect a new leadership, review the work done in the past, and discuss prevention and preparation for challenges they may face in the future.
