Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, Dr Abdullah Muththalib, has revealed that documents related to the Binveriyaa Scheme were lost in the fire incident that occurred in the ministry building. 

Minister Dr Muththalib revealed this while answering a question by Meekail Ahmed Naseem, member for South Galolhu constituency, during today’s sitting.

MP Meekail questioned Minister Muththalib whether they had lost any documents related to the Binveriyaa scheme to the fire, highlighting the ongoing investigation. 

In response to the question, Minister Muththalib revealed that documents related to this scheme were burned during the fire. However, he clarified that none of the documents required for the investigation were lost during this incident. 

He further stated that the ongoing investigation concerns the fraudulent issuance of documents to individuals who did not receive land under the scheme. 

Minister Dr Muththalib noted that, from the outset, all processes related to the scheme were managed through the online portal. He also highlighted that the list of individuals who received land has been gazetted, and all the information related to these individuals is stored in the portal. 

During a fire incident on December 12, 2024, three ministries, including the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, sustained severe damage to their premises and lost several important documents.
