Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has officially rejoined the Adhaalath Party and submitted his nomination to contest for the party’s presidency in its upcoming internal elections. The announcement was made through a social media post on May 2, 2025.
Minister Dr Shaheem, who played a central role in founding the Adhaalath Party, previously held senior positions within the party before departing during a period of internal rifts. His return comes more than a decade after he left the party and is seen as a significant political development for the party, which has experienced leadership transitions and internal restructuring over the years.
After resigning from Adhaalath Party, Minister Dr Shaheem joined the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), but did not affiliate with any political party following PPM’s dissolution. His decision to rejoin Adhaalath was first announced last week and has since been welcomed by senior party figures.
Adhaalath Party is currently led by former Home Minister Imran Abdulla, who took over the leadership after the departure of several senior scholars, including Minister Dr Shaheem. The internal elections, expected to be held later this year, will determine the party's new leadership as it prepares to strengthen its position in the national political landscape.
