The Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, stated that the effective functioning of the legislative body depends on the timely enactment of laws essential to serving the public.

Prior to the conclusion of today’s sitting, the Chair announced that Parliament would enter recess following the end of the first session of the year on May 15.

Stating the need to pass several bills before the recess begins, Abdul Raheem stressed the importance of facilitating the work of parliamentary committees to ensure a smooth legislative process.

He noted that a significant amount of work remains to be completed within a limited timeframe, and remarked that the bills in question had been thoroughly reviewed and endorsed by Parliament following efforts by the committees.

The second session of Parliament is scheduled to commence in June, following a two-week break.
