Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has revealed that the Government will not have to subsidise the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to introduce the taxi line service.
Addressing the parliament today, Minister Ameen stated that the Government plans to run and maintain the taxi line service using its revenue instead of subsidies. He noted that the Government will assist in capital investment to launch the service.
He assured that the launch of the Government’s taxi line service will not interrupt any existing taxi services, and they will be provided with the option of joining the state’s taxi service.
He added that the aim is to introduce taxi line service with 100 taxis, ensuring that existing taxi services are not disrupted. He emphasised that the Government has no intention of halting or interfering with current services.
Minister Ameen further stated that the introduction of the taxi line will address the shortage of taxi services in the city.
The Government plans to launch the taxi line service in July this year.
