Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced that plot transfers to the reclaimed area of Gulhifalhu will begin later this month, starting with a lottery draw.
The transfer process follows amendments to the land use plan, originally announced on August 24, 2023. According to the Minister, the previous plan lacked key components for residential development.
A revised plan, announced on October 27, 2024, introduced new residential allocations, but some recipients were assigned plots in areas that had not yet been reclaimed.
To expedite the registration process, the Government has now decided to allocate plots only from already reclaimed areas, moving commercial and institutional designations to future reclamation zones.
The Minister said the updated plan has been gazetted and shared with the Gulhifalhu plot recipients’ association. Consultations have been held on the revised land distribution strategy.
A lottery will be held this month to finalise allocations, and registrations will be issued immediately afterwards. According to Minister Dr Muththalib, plots will be handed over as soon as the land survey is completed.
The change, he added, addresses concerns from plot recipients and aligns with the President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's policy to fast-track land handovers.
