The Maldives Police Service has recently concluded two specialised training initiatives, Terrorist Incident First Response Awareness (TIFRA) and Terrorist Incident Command Response Awareness (TICRA) aimed at enhancing regional counter-terrorism readiness among frontline officers.

Conducted from May 12- 15 in Mahibadhoo, the programmes targeted officers from the North Central Police Division, focusing on strengthening first response capabilities and command-level coordination in the event of a terrorist attack.

The sessions provided comprehensive briefings on tactical awareness, response protocols, and scene management procedures. Particular emphasis was placed on equipping first responders and supervisory personnel operating near residential communities, resort islands, and industrial zonee areas identified as potentially vulnerable in crisis scenarios.

By reinforcing operational readiness, the initiative is expected to significantly bolster the capacity of regional police units to respond swiftly and effectively to terrorist threats. The training also supports wider national counter-terrorism strategies coordinated by central law enforcement agencies.

These programmes are part of the broader International Protect and Prepare Programme, jointly implemented by the Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Division of the Maldives Police Service in partnership with the government of the United Kingdom.
