The Government has decided to establish three additional drug remand centres to support the recovery of individuals struggling with addiction. 

Under the Narcotics Act, additional remand centres will be established in Gaaf Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Gnaviyani Fuvahmulah, and Seenu Hithadhoo. 

Currently, there are two remand centres in operation, located in Kaafu Himmafushi and Hulhumalé.

The primary objective of drug offender remand centres is to separate drug users and dealers from criminal environments and provide them with the required treatments. 

These centres are designed to hold individuals arrested on drug-related charges during their custody period while providing them with appropriate treatment.
