President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his Administration's commitment to regional development during a one-day visit to Meemu Atoll on May 20, where he inaugurated Muli Airport, and held meetings with local councils to discuss key concerns.
The Muli Island Council expressed deep appreciation to the President, noting that the completion of the airport ends a wait of over three decades for the island's residents. The meeting, held at the Secretariat of the Meemu Atoll Council, brought together members of the Muli Island Council, the Women's Development Committee (WDC), and community leaders.
During the meeting, the Council outlined additional priorities for the island, including the installation of air-conditioning in school classrooms, the establishment of rehabilitation services, and expanded training opportunities to strengthen human resources. Suggestions were also made to develop a dedicated picnic island and improve tourism, healthcare, and sports infrastructure.
In a separate engagement, the President met with members of the Naalaafushi Island Council, WDC, and heads of institutions. Representatives raised urgent issues such as inadequate water and sewerage systems and frequent power outages.
Council members also welcomed the President's remarks regarding the proposed causeway linking Muli and Naalaafushi, which they believe would stimulate economic activity and facilitate improved services, including access to ATMs and enhanced policing.
