Five local men were injured, one seriously, after a dinghy collided head-on with a launch in Lhaviyani Atoll late last night.

The Maldives Police Service confirmed the incident was reported at approximately 12.33 a.m. According to police, the collision involved a small dinghy carrying a group of people and a larger launch vessel.

All five injured individuals are Maldivian nationals. One sustained serious injuries and has since been transferred to Malé for further medical assistance, while the others are being treated for minor to moderate injuries.

Police stated that the dinghy was extensively damaged in the crash and is no longer operational. No injuries have been reported from those aboard the launch.
