The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that it is currently reviewing more than 8,600 complaints related to the Gedhoruveriya Housing Scheme and has committed to completing the process before the end of May.
The review follows an earlier investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which found that 2,180 of the 4,000 individuals listed as flat recipients were ineligible. In response, a special committee was formed to oversee a comprehensive review of the list, which had originally been gazetted by the previous administration in November 2023.
Following the findings, the Ministry opened a public complaint period to allow individuals to contest the recipient list. The submission window initially ran from March 1 to 30, but was extended until April 15 due to public holidays during Ramadan and Eid.
A total of 8,602 complaints were received by the Ministry. Of these, 5,236 were submitted through the Gedhoruverin portal, 2,840 by email, and 526 via letter. The Ministry confirmed that no new documents were accepted during the complaint period.
The Ministry has stated that the process is being conducted with transparency and fairness, with the goal of ensuring that only eligible applicants remain on the final list of flat recipients.
