The Bank of Maldives (BML) has officially launched ATM services in Narudhoo and Lhaimagu, two islands located in North Miladhunmadulu, as part of a nationwide initiative to enhance financial accessibility across the Maldives.

The inauguration ceremonies were presided over by the Minister for Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar. The events were attended by BML Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Shareef, senior bank officials, and members of the respective island councils.

In Narudhoo, Minister Adam Shareef marked the official launch by making the first ATM transaction. In his remarks, he highlighted President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of Maldivian citizens through decentralised services and infrastructure development. Since taking office, the President has prioritised easing daily challenges by expanding access to essential services, particularly in remote and underserved communities.

The newly installed self-service ATM in Narudhoo provides residents with 24-hour access to banking functions, including withdrawals and deposits.. A similar ceremony took place in Lhaimagu, where the Minister also inaugurated the new ATM by conducting the first withdrawal.

Speaking at the event, Minister Adam Shareef reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to improving service delivery through collaboration with institutions. He emphasised that expanding ATM services to all inhabited islands is a vital step in boosting local economies and fostering greater financial inclusion.

The installations in Narudhoo and Lhaimagu form part of a initiative led by the Bank of Maldives in partnership with the Government, aiming to establish ATM services on every inhabited island across the nation. As part of the current rollout phase, the project has commenced ATM deployment in ten islands of Shaviyani Atoll, with five installations already completed. The remaining five are expected to become operational by the end of this stage.
