A special awareness walk was held on Friday evening in Hulhumalé to commemorate World Blood Donor Day 2025.
The event was organised by the Transfusion Services of the Malé City Group of Hospitals, bringing together participants from the Ministry of Health, hospitals, and non-governmental organisations across the Greater Malé Region.
The walk took place in Hulhumalé Phase II and featured the participation of Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, along with a large crowd of supporters. Participants carried banners and placards highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation and encouraging greater community involvement.
According to the Malé City Group of Hospitals, the event aimed to promote the habit of regular blood donation and to raise public awareness of its critical role in saving lives. The organisation also used the occasion to express gratitude to blood donors and celebrate their life-saving contributions.
World Blood Donor Day is observed globally on June 14 each year, recognising the humanitarian service of voluntary blood donors and underscoring the ongoing need for safe, sufficient blood supplies.
