The Civil Court has ordered Sri Lankan company Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMCC) to pay USD 1.68 million to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The payment concerns land reclamation work completed by MTCC in Kaafu Fushidhiggaru Falhu, covering 10 hectares as part of the Ras Malé development project.
MTCC filed the case after completing the reclamation work without receiving any payment from CMCC. The company sought a lump sum settlement of USD 1.68 million, arguing that CMCC had failed to fulfil its contractual obligations despite the work being completed.
In its ruling, the Civil Court confirmed that CMCC had agreed to make the payment and ordered the company to settle the amount in full within one month from Thursday.
CMCC was awarded the contract to reclaim a total of 1,153 hectares of land under the Ras Malé project, with 70 hectares in Hulhumalé and Fushidhiggaru Falhu provided in lieu of monetary payment. The Government cancelled the contract in May last year after the company failed to complete the work within the agreed eight-month timeline. Following the termination, the Ras Malé project resumed under new arrangements later that year.
