Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced the successful completion of a bunkering and pilotage operation under its Uthuru Maritime Service (UMS).

In a post shared on X, MPL also revealed that on Thursday, it provided pilotage services to the container vessel MSC Wind II at Ihavandhippolhu Off Port Limits (OPL).

The vessel, which arrived from Mombasa, Kenya, en route to Vizhinjam, India, called for bunkering and received 250 metric tonnes of fuel supplied by MPL’s partner, STO Plc.

MPL noted that this operation demonstrates UMS’s expanding capacity to serve vessels navigating key international routes through northern Maldivian waters.

Bunkering services were officially launched in the Maldives in September last year, with the government investing between USD 15 million and USD 20 million to establish international bunkering services in Ihavandhippolhu.

Two tankers, each with a capacity of around 4,000 tonnes, are being used to provide bunkering services. These vessels deliver fuel either offshore or by mooring alongside ships at sea.
