A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Hulhumalé, where a pedestrian was struck while crossing the road at a designated crosswalk.

The incident occurred on June 16 on Nirolhu Magu in Hulhumalé Phase One and was reported to the police at around 2:10 p.m. A 54-year-old man was seriously injured in the collision and is currently receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé.

Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Mohamed Nashiu, who was riding the motorcycle involved in the accident. Authorities confirmed that he did not possess a valid driving licence at the time.

Nashiu fled the scene following the accident and was arrested on June 19 under a court order. He has been remanded in custody for six days as the investigation continues.
