The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) to support the cleaning and upkeep of selected archaeological and heritage sites across the Maldives.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at WAMCO headquarters on June 17, 2025. Permanent Secretary Mohamed Yaniu Hashim signed on behalf of the ministry, while Managing Director Mujuthaba Jaleel represented WAMCO.

Under the MoU, WAMCO will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of heritage structures that are easily accessible in areas where the company operates. The selected sites will be inspected every three months, and WAMCO will carry out regular cleaning and beautification work.

The Ministry stated that preserving the country’s cultural heritage is a key priority, and acknowledged the importance of contributions from state-owned companies in national conservation efforts.
