The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Khaleel, has arrived in Istanbul, Türkiye, to participate in the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Minister confirmed his arrival in a post on X, stating that he was in Istanbul for the high-level diplomatic gathering. He noted that upon arrival, he was received by Lieutenant General (Retired) Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, the Ambassador of the Maldives to Türkiye, and expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the host country.
He further indicated his intention to engage constructively with his counterparts from across the Islamic world and to raise key issues impacting the global Muslim community.
The OIC, established 56 years ago, has become one of the most prominent multilateral platforms representing Muslim interests. It comprises 57 member states and represents over a billion Muslims worldwide.
The Maldives joined the OIC in 1976 and has since actively participated in its activities, including Islamic summits and annual sessions of the Council of Foreign Ministers. Maldivian representatives have consistently called for unity and collaboration to address the complex challenges facing the Islamic world.
