The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that construction of the harbour breakwater and quay wall in Baa Hithaadhoo has reached 70 per cent completion.
In a project update shared on Sunday, MTCC said breakwater profiling works are currently ongoing at the project site.
The project was awarded to MTCC in late 2021, with a contract value of MVR 25.6 million. It includes several key components aimed at enhancing coastal protection and harbour infrastructure.
The scope of the project comprises 595.7 metres of rock revetment, 335.88 metres of quay wall built with precast L-blocks, and dredging works amounting to 27,435 cubic metres. Additionally, the project includes paving 1,729.4 square metres of the harbour area, construction of a 75-metre jetty, and installation of a 22-metre bridge.
Once completed, the development is expected to enhance harbour safety and provide improved docking facilities for vessels operating in the region.
