The third round of the Young Khateeb training programme has officially begun, with 257 students taking part in the latest session.
Organised by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the programme is aimed at students in Grades 10, 11, and 12. It offers practical training in sermon delivery, prayer leadership, and foundational religious knowledge.
This round of training is scheduled to take place from June 26 to 28 at the Islamic Centre in Malé City. For participants residing outside the capital, the Ministry has arranged distance learning to ensure nationwide participation.
The programme has been well received across the country and is regarded as particularly beneficial for island communities facing a shortage of qualified Khateebs. Upon completion of this session, the total number of young Khateebs trained under the programme will reach 500.
The Government has set a target of training 1,000 young Khateebs during its current term, as part of broader efforts to build local religious leadership and promote youth engagement in religious affairs.
