The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has invited bids for the development and operation of a tourist hotel in Haa Alifu Baarah, as part of ongoing efforts to promote eco-tourism and expand the sector across the northern atolls.
The Government has allocated 71,832 square feet of land for the project, which aims to generate employment opportunities and support sustainable development in the region. The initiative aligns with the Administration’s broader strategy to diversify tourism beyond the central Maldives.
A virtual information session for interested bidders will be held at 10 a.m. on July 8. Participants must submit their name, contact number and email address to the Ministry by noon on Monday, July 7.
Bid documents will be available on working days from June 29 to August 19, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., either at the Ministry’s reception or via email upon request. Completed submissions must be delivered in person by 10 a.m. on Aug. 20.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to eco-tourism in Baarah during a visit to the island last year, highlighting the potential for such projects to strengthen local economies and promote environmentally responsible practices.
According to the Ministry, the project is open to both domestic and international bidders to encourage greater private sector participation in the national tourism industry.
