The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the second phase of the road development project in Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, as part of its ongoing efforts to upgrade island infrastructure.

According to MTCC, the second phase will include the construction of a subbase layer, ABC foundation works, dwarf wall construction, landscaping, cable junction and service line trenching, as well as the installation of streetlights and road signage. The value of this phase is estimated at MVR 30.46 million.

The first phase of the Hoarafushi road project was awarded to MTCC in 2022. That phase saw the development of 5.3 kilometres of roads across 11 routes, with a total of 25,909 metres levelled and fenced. Additionally, 11,114 square metres of road surface were paved, a drainage system was installed, and streetlights and signage were installed. The total cost of the first phase was MVR 71.90 million.

MTCC stated that the continuation of the project reflects the Government’s commitment to enhancing transportation and accessibility in the outer islands. The project is expected to significantly improve mobility and public safety for residents.
