Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) recorded a historic net profit of MVR 1.1 billion in 2024, marking a 32.2 per cent increase over the previous year. This milestone, achieved despite incurring MVR 7.2 billion in recurring expenses, represents the highest net profit in the company’s history.

The announcement was made during MACL’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2024, held at the Hulhulé Island Hotel, where the company’s leadership outlined both past achievements and forward-looking strategic priorities.

The event was attended by Chairperson Aisha Nurain Janah, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, as well as members of the Executive Committee. The gathering provided a platform to reflect on the company’s performance over the past year and to outline strategic priorities for the future.

In her remarks, Chairperson Nurain highlighted MACL’s recent achievements, noting that the progress made over the past year had reinforced the company's foundations. She expressed a positive outlook for the company’s future, conveying confidence that MACL would maintain its upward trajectory.

Echoing this sentiment, CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed credited the organisation’s collective effort for its recent success. He underscored the role of the board, management, and staff in driving performance, reaffirming their commitment to sustaining this momentum in the years ahead.

Building on this foundation, Shareef outlined the company’s forward-looking strategy, placing particular emphasis on the upcoming opening of a new passenger terminal. He noted that the terminal is expected to significantly enhance service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and make a meaningful contribution to the company’s profitability. The new terminal, he added, would represent a pivotal advancement for the country’s tourism sector.

Looking ahead, the company’s immediate focus remains on the successful commissioning of the new passenger terminal. With enhanced infrastructure now in place, MACL is well-positioned to expand its range of services and elevate the overall experience for passengers, airline partners, and key stakeholders.
