An orchid hybrid has been officially named in honour of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed at Singapore’s National Orchid Garden, as a symbolic gesture of friendship between the two nations.

The naming ceremony was held during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed’s visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

The newly named orchid will now be featured in the prestigious “VIP Orchids” collection, which honours distinguished international guests.

The National Orchid Garden upholds a longstanding tradition of naming orchid hybrids in honour of visiting state dignitaries, as a gesture of friendship and diplomatic goodwill.

During their visit, the President and First Lady signed the visitors’ book and received a briefing on the history of the garden and its guided tours.

The President and the First Lady are currently in Singapore on a state visit from June 29th to  July 2nd, 2025.

President Dr Muizzu’s visit to Singapore includes high-level meetings with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and other senior officials to strengthen bilateral ties. Several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) are set to be signed across key sectors during the trip.

In addition to official engagements, the visit will feature a business forum bringing together Maldivian and Singaporean business leaders to explore trade and investment opportunities. President Dr Muizzu is also expected to meet with members of the Maldivian community residing in Singapore.
