Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has emphasised the importance of embracing change to achieve better outcomes, especially in education.

Speaking at the 2023–2024 prize-giving ceremony of Baa Atoll Education Centre, the Minister said that relying on the same strategies would only produce the same outcomes. He illustrated his point with a local fishing analogy, noting that if one always goes fishing for mushimas (bigeyed scad), one will always catch mushimas. However, by taking the same catch to a different location, it becomes possible to find different types of fish.

He said the same concept applies to education; results can be improved by trying new approaches rather than repeating old ones.

He highlighted the need for innovation and experimentation in teaching, saying that such efforts are vital to boosting student performance and preparing them for life beyond school.

Minister Adam Shareef also reiterated the vision of the Nationalism curriculum, which aims to produce graduates who are grounded in Islamic faith, confident in their Maldivian identity, and capable of thriving in an evolving world.

He added that the education system must nurture students who are curious, creative, and responsible; individuals who not only contribute to their families and communities but are also able to generate knowledge and adapt to change.
